Dialogue (A Form of an Answer) brings together selected works from Calovski’s and Ivanoska’s recent artistic production, including We Are All in This Alone (56th Venice Biennale, 2015), Unspoken (Malmö Konstmuseum, 2015), To Fold Within As To Hide (Bauhaus Foundation Dessau, 2015), and A Form of an Answer (Sculpture Space, New York, 2016).

Performances

This performance is a phantasmagoric interpretation of an imagined interrogation that took place before the Committee’s final decision. Everything in this text is based on memories, speculations, multiplications, spectral projections, and multiple voices.

Museum of Women’s Stories, series of 12 drawings, 2015

Drawings

The drawings were created as part of the “Museum of Women's Stories”, a three-year (2014–2016) research project coauthored by Iskra Geshoska, Hristina Ivanoska, Violeta Kachakova, and Biljana Tanurovska-Kjulavkovska. emerged from the need to explore, understand, and (re)affirm women’s roles in the first half of the 20th century in Pelagonia Region.

We Are All in This Alone by Calovski and Ivanoska exhibited at the Macedonian Pavilion, 56th Venice Biennial, is a multimedia installation that brings together architecture, fresco painting, paper constructions, and typed letters to address faith not only as an emotional and intellectual condition, but also as a contemporary socio-political anomaly

Intimate Introspection: Artist and/or Society (2013) is a site-specific installation made from recycled cardboard boxes collected from local businesses, using text and drawing to reflect the artist’s precarious position within a neoliberal, privatised public sphere.

La Mystérique (The Path of Grace) emerges from an engagement with the writings of Simone Weil and Luce Irigaray. It is a series of 9 drawings in the cut-out technique, and a garland made of handmade paper, each covered with golden acrylic paint.

Oskar Hansen’s Museum of Modern Art (2007) is a long-term research project by Yane Calovski and Hristina Ivanoska that examines multiple hypotheses surrounding the interpretation of art-historical references and critically engages with the hypothetical program of an unrealized museum proposal designed by Polish architect Oskar Hansen in 1966.

Stone Soup performance, 2005-2008

Performances

Stone Soup begins from a simple act of gathering and sharing but insists that this simplicity is never neutral. It emerges in conditions of scarcity—war, inflation, displacement—where survival is already a collective negotiation. The story of “stone soup" is a political grammar of how people come together when systems fail to provide.
