Staying with the Trouble, exclusive work in graphite and color pencils using Archetype Open Form typography and font for poster and book design, commissioned for Skopje Pride Weekend 2024, non-governmental organization Coalition Margins, curated by Slavcho Dimitrov, design and technical support: Igor Delov.
“The drawing that visualizes the concept of the festival is created by the Macedonian artist Hristina Ivanoska, and it is originally made for this year's edition. Ivanoska's continuous interest in working with text, through constructing content and its visualization, inspires her to create her own typography named "Archetype Open Form," which unites her interests in (non)caring and forgetfulness. This drawing is part of the process of creating and testing visual solutions using typography. The choice of wooden colors and the palette emerged from Ivanoska's closeness to the queer community and recognition of queer qualities in her artistic practice. As a result of the typography research of the German artist and educator, Josef Albers, which he developed during the period from 1926 to 1931, being aware of the speed with which public space is changing and commercialized, and the "Theory of Open Form" by Polish architects Oskar and Zofia Hansen from 1959, which rejects hierarchy in favor of including different voices in the process of conceptualizing public and private space, Ivanoska creates typography that erases the verticals and horizontals as dominant hierarchies to open up space for the forgotten voices of the past in the interest of the future. In this printed edition of the festival, the font "Archetype Open Form," which is used for the first time in the translation of theoretical texts, runs through the entire content in warm shades of pink and red, pulsing between the pages and making reading an active, performative act by the reader. “
